Online Learning

Dear Lone Peak Family,

Thank you all for the patience and love you have shown us over the past few weeks.  This has been a hard adjustment as elementary teachers have had very limited training in using online options to teach.  Many of you may be wondering what is happening now in the buildings and what will be the next step.

Over the course of the last week and a half, your students were given packets created by the district.  The intent of those packets was to help support you in keeping a learning routine for students while giving teachers the time to train on CANVAS in order to deliver online courses.  None of the material in those packets is required and none of it will be graded.  Teachers have been doing online training themselves, and meeting virtually in teams to help support each other in consistent lessons for their grade level.  They have been resilient and tireless in their efforts for our children.

Beginning Monday, March 30th, we will be implementing online instruction.  On Monday, you will receive information from the district about a video for parents. This will inform you how to access the CANVAS materials for our online courses and how to use CANVAS.  In addition, there will be CANVAS courses in Digital Citizenship for students to complete.  This is especially important in this world of online courses and will help keep them safe online.  Tuesday, March 31st, our teachers will be pushing out their CANVAS courses.  Students should use the same login information as they do at school.  The district is working on a method to get that information to parents.  We know that this will be a two-sided learning adventure.  We will be learning how best to present material so that parents and students can understand it, and you and your children will be learning how to use CANVAS.  We are happy to take feedback and adjust when we need to.  I only ask that when you give feedback to remember that the stress and anxiety is high for all of us.  We can all support each other in this process.

Our grade level teams will be communicating to you their office hours.  This is not because they aren’t working all day, but rather to make it easier for families to reach out.  In addition, each grade will also continue to have daily morning meetings so that they can interact with students face-to-face and reduce some of the anxiety we are all feeling. Teachers will communicate with you where you can find these meetings.

Please know that we love each and every one of you!  We are happy to help in any way we can!  Thank you for being a part of our Lone Peak Family!

Love,

Ms. Stacy
